LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nade-
lhaft upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of distin-
guished service to the 244th Medical Clinic, New York Guard

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who devote their lives to military service merit
the commendation and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire
State for their dedication and sacrifices which ensure our continued
role as a Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the 244th
Medical Clinic, New York Guard, to be celebrated at its Annual Reception
and Retirement Dinner at Tre Angelina Restaurant in Monroe, New York, on
Sunday, April 29, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1917, the New York Guard is an all-volunteer,
unpaid component of the state's military forces; its mission is to
augment state military forces and support civil authorities within the
state; and
WHEREAS, The 244th Medical Clinic is the principal, centrally located
medical asset of the New York Guard; with approximately 35 members, the
soldiers and officers of the 244th Medical Clinic are unpaid volunteer
physicians, surgeons, psychiatrists, dentists, nurses, psychologists,
paramedics, and experts in emergency planning and response, among other
professionals; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft is a resident of
Yorktown Heights, a contract specialist with IBM and an Emergency
Medical Technician; and
WHEREAS, On May 18, 2002, Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft
entered the New York Guard, with the rank of Sergeant; for many years,
he has ably served both as an EMT and as the administrative Non-Commis-
sioned Officer-in-Charge of the 244th Medical Clinic; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft expects to retire
from the New York Guard August 13, 2012, after over 10 years of volun-
tary service to the State; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades, Sergeant First Class
Stephen J. Nadelhaft has been decorated with the New York Guard
Commander's Citation and awarded the New York Guard Operations Support
Medal in recognition of his work advancing the mission of medical read-
iness of New York Army National Guard troops; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, the United States Army twice awarded Sergeant First
Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft the Certificate of Appreciation for Patriotic
Public Service for his work in support of the Junior Reserve Officer
Training Program New York Cadet Leadership Camp in 2010 and 2011; and
WHEREAS, When budget cutbacks eliminated planned nursing coverage, the
program, capstone of yearlong training for over 300 high school cadets,
would have been cancelled; Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft,
along with other members of the 244th Medical Clinic, took unpaid leave
from work to provide medical support every day of the week-long program
in each year, allowing the program to go forward and saving tens of
thousands of dollars that would otherwise have been wasted; and
WHEREAS, Over his many years of unpaid, voluntary duty in the New York
Guard, Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft has provided many thou-
sands of dollars of service value to the state; and

WHEREAS, This significant and effective voluntary service to community
has been a defining characteristic of Sergeant First Class Stephen J.
Nadelhaft; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a blending of strength,
leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demonstrated by Sergeant
First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedi-
cation to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the 244th
Medical Clinic, New York Guard; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sergeant First Class Stephen J. Nadelhaft.
