LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jenelle Mitchell upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Housing Advocate Award
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jenelle Mitc-
hell upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Housing
Advocate Award, to be celebrated at the 5th Annual Men of Distinction
and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 17, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Men of Distinction and Women of Valor Awards Ceremony is
held each year to honor and pay just tribute to outstanding individuals
whose leadership roles have had a significant impact on the daily lives
of the people of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Jenelle Mitchell began her career with the New York City
Housing Authority in 1998 as a Social Work Supervisor; she rose through
the ranks to her current position as the Director of NYCHA's Brooklyn
Community Operations Department, where she is responsible for the direct
oversight and operation of 46 community facilities, and the indirect
oversight of 95 sponsored facilities; and
WHEREAS, In her current role, Jenelle Mitchell serves to facilitate
the Authority's ongoing commitment to develop long-lasting and working
partnerships with Resident-Associations, Police-Service Areas, communi-
ty-based organizations, and other key stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure at NYCHA, Jenelle Mitchell has served on
numerous committees and implemented a number of significant initiatives
that have focused on operational and policy changes within her Depart-
ment in order to better serve NYCHA's residents and communities; and
WHEREAS, Jenelle Mitchell is a Licensed Master Social Worker, and has
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Binghamton University, and a
Master's degree in Social Work from Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jenelle Mitchell upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Housing Advocate Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jenelle Mitchell.
