LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sarah Arikupurathu upon the occasion
of receiving the Girl Scout Silver Award

WHEREAS, Sarah Arikupurathu will be honored with the Girl Scout Silver
Award, for 11 to 14-year-old girls and Girl Scouting's second highest
achievement, at a Girl Scouts of America Awards Ceremony, to be held at
the Herricks Community Center in New Hyde Park, New York, on Wednesday,
May 23, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Sarah Arikupurathu resides in Manhasset Hills, New York, and
is a member of Troop 1667; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our nation's young people the
goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of work-
ing with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and
encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless
young women who have participated in the programs which have made Girl
Scouting an American and international institution; and
WHEREAS, To earn the Silver Award, Sarah Arikupurathu completed five
requirements; the first four requirements help girls build skills,
explore careers, gain leadership skills, and make a commitment to self-
improvement and are followed by the completion of the fifth requirement,
a Silver Award community service project which Sarah Arikupurathu
planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For her Silver Award project, Sarah Arikupurathu created
coloring books and donated crayon boxes so children who are hospitalized
can enjoy them and keep busy; she made separate books for boys and girls
and brought them to a cancer unit at NYU Hospital and plans to make
another trip there with more, most welcome, items; and
WHEREAS, The Silver Award symbolizes an 11 to 14-year-old Girl Scout's
accomplishments in Girl Scouting and community activities as she matures
and works to better her life and the lives of others; it is tangible
evidence of Sarah Arikupurathu's high character and commitment, and is a
harbinger of her future service to her community, New York State and our
nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
warmly congratulate Sarah Arikupurathu, recognizing her achievement in
earning the Girl Scout Silver Award and wishing her success, health and
happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sarah Arikupurathu.
