LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Drs. Andrew and Galina Zaretsky upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the Humanitarian Award by
the Aleh Foundation
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Drs. Andrew
and Galina Zaretsky upon the occasion of their designation as recipients
of the Humanitarian Award by the Aleh Foundation, to be celebrated at
its 28th Anniversary Awards Dinner Ceremony on Wednesday, May 16, 2012,
at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Zaretsky was born in 1959 in Ulyanovsk, Russia; he
spent his childhood in a small town where only six Jewish families
lived; in 1976, he moved to the larger city of Yaroslavl, in order to
attend medical school, and it was there where he met his future wife,
Galina; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from medical school, Drs. Andrew and Galina
Zaretsky got married in 1983, started a family, and worked at a hospital
in a small town near Moscow; after the end of the Cold War, and the
gates from the Soviet Union were opened, the Zaretsky family migrated to
New York in 1994; and
WHEREAS, After their arrival to New York, Dr. Andrew Zaretsky volun-
teered at Maimonides Medical Center while studying for the medical board
exams; after earning his medical license, he completed residency at
Maimonides, and then took a position at the Dr. Joseph Sholomon prac-
tice, where he has been working ever since; and
WHEREAS, Originally from Belorussia, Galina Zaretsky passed her
medical exams after arriving in New York; she completed her residency in
the Lutheran hospital and currently has her own private practice in
Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their children, both of whom
feel privileged to be a part of their lives and rejoice in their
achievements; and
WHEREAS, True assets to society, Drs. Andrew and Galina Zaretsky's
distinguished record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of
this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Drs. Andrew and Galina Zaretsky upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of the Humanitarian Award by the Aleh Foundation;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Drs. Andrew and Galina Zaretsky.
