LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Jeffrey H. Wisoff upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Medical Leadership Award by the
Aleh Foundation

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Jeffrey H.
Wisoff upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Medical
Leadership Award by the Aleh Foundation, to be celebrated at its 28th
Anniversary Awards Dinner Ceremony on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the
Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jeffrey Wisoff is the Director of the Division of Pedia-
tric Neurosurgery and Associate Professor of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics
at the New York University Medical Center; he graduated summa cum laude
and Phi Beta Kappa from Union College and received his medical degree,
with honors, from the George Washington University School of Medicine;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jeffrey Wisoff completed his Neurosurgery residency at
NYU under Joseph Ransohoff, M.D., followed by a fellowship in Pediatric
Neurosurgery under Fred J. Epstein, M.D.; Dr. Wisoff was a founding
member of the NYU Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery in 1985 and assumed
its Directorship in 1996; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 20 years, Dr. Jeffrey Wisoff has made major
innovative contributions to the surgical treatment of neurological
disorders in children, and congenital problems in adults, in particular
to the treatment of brain tumors, Chiari malformations, hydrocephalus
and craniosynostosis; he has published over 150 scientific articles and
book chapters, and has been an invited speaker and visiting professor at
numerous international sites, including Israel, Poland, Brazil, Argenti-
na and Japan; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wisoff is the past co-chairman of the Neurosurgery
Committee and a senior member of the Brain Tumor Strategy Committee of
the national Children's Oncology Group; he is the chair of the COG Low-
grade Astrocytoma Protocol, a prospective, international study of the
surgical treatment of over 700 children with low-grade pediatric brain
tumors; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wisoff is chairman of the Joint Section of Pediatric
Neurosurgery of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and
the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and is a member of the American
Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery and the International Society for
Pediatric Neurosurgery; he also serves on the medical advisory board of
the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation and the Hydrocephalus Association;
and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Dr. Jeffrey Wisoff's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Jeffrey H. Wisoff upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Medical Leadership Award by the Aleh Foundation; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Jeffrey H. Wisoff.
