LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mara Deckard upon the occasion of
receiving a 2012 State University of New York Chancellor's Award for
Student Excellence

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exem-
plify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and nation;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mara
Deckard, of East Amherst, New York, upon the occasion of receiving a
2012 State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excel-
lence; and
WHEREAS, A student at the University of Buffalo, Mara Deckard is a
young woman of singular distinction and superlative abilities who has
established a high standard of academic excellence and purposefulness of
life rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence was created in
1997 to recognize State University students who have integrated academic
excellence with outstanding accomplishments in the areas of leadership,
athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, or career
achievement; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Mara
Deckard now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, friends and
family; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when young
people of such accomplishment are brought to our attention, they should
be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of
New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mara Deckard upon the occasion of receiving a 2012 State Universi-
ty of New York Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, and to extend
to her its best wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-be-
ing, fully confident of her response to a promising future and appreci-
ative of the model she represents for all aspiring young people of the
Empire State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mara Deckard.
