LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Margaret H. Evers upon the occasion of
her retirement after many years of dedicated service as an educator

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individuals efforts, the excellence and
the success of the Jefferson Primary School in Huntington, New York, is
due in large measure to the efforts of its retiring Principal, Margaret
H. Evers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Margaret H. Evers upon the occasion of her retirement after many years
of dedicated service as an educator; and
WHEREAS, Capping off more than 30 years as a teacher and administra-
tor, Margaret H. Evers will retire at the end of June 2012 as the Prin-
cipal of the Jefferson Primary School in Huntington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Prior to becoming a school administrator, Margaret H. Evers
was an elementary grade level special education teacher from 1980 to
1992; she was the coordinator of special education, K-6, and was respon-
sible for 450 students, providing leadership to teachers and training
for aides, among a host of other responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Margaret H. Evers served as chairperson of the
committee on preschool special education (CPSE) from 1992-1995, coordi-
nating the transition of special needs children from CPSE to the commit-
tee on special education (CSE) and working with the Suffolk County
Department of Health to coordinate services; and
WHEREAS, In September 2000, Margaret H. Evers became an administrative
associate in the Huntington school district office and the following
year she joined the central office staff as Assistant to the Superinten-
dent for Curriculum and Instruction; she was promoted to Assistant
Superintendent of Schools prior to becoming the Principal of the Jeffer-
son Primary School; and
WHEREAS, A 1972 graduate of Huntington High School, Margaret H. Evers
earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at SUNY College at Brock-
port in 1976, and obtained a master's degree in special education at
Adelphi University in 1980; she also received an administrative certif-
ication at Stony Brook University in 2001; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Huntington, New York, Margaret H. Evers and her
husband, Jack, are the proud parents of a son and a daughter, both of
whom are graduates of Huntington High School; and
WHEREAS, Margaret H. Evers has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at the
Jefferson Primary School in Huntington, New York, for the benefit of its
faculty and students, as well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, In completing her many years of service as an educator,
Margaret H. Evers leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; she
leaves behind a legacy to the residents of the Huntington community and
to future generations of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and commend Margaret H. Evers upon the occasion of her retirement,
and for her significant contributions to education in New York State;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Margaret H. Evers.
