LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Erik Nicolaysen for 50 years of cease-
less dedicated service to the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the concerned and caring work of citizens who voluntarily assist
in safeguarding the safety and welfare of their neighbors and community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Erik Nicolaysen for 50 years of ceaseless dedicated service to the Chap-
paqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps, to be celebrated on Friday, June 8,
2012 at the Kittle House in Chappaqua, New York; and
WHEREAS, An engineering graduate of Rutgers, and life-long resident of
Chappaqua, Erik Nicolaysen was one of the original members of the Chap-
paqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and
WHEREAS, Erik Nicolaysen's passion has always been public service; he
honorably served his country with 11 years of military service, on
reserve and on active duty; and
WHEREAS, During the Korean Conflict, Erik Nicolaysen achieved the rank
of 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army 51st Signal Battalion,
stationed 10 miles from the DMZ; and
WHEREAS, After the war, Erik Nicolaysen returned to civilian life,
working with his father at the Nicolaysen Insurance Company; he joined
the Millwood Volunteer Fire Department in 1962, and later the Chappaqua
Fire Department, where he also served as Captain; and
WHEREAS, In 1962, Erik Nicolaysen joined Chappaqua American Legion
Post 453 which had been providing ambulance service for Chappaqua since
1937; he became one of the first Emergency Medical Technicians in 1966;
and
WHEREAS, The American Legion transferred the ambulance service in 1973
to Chappaqua, to create one of the first ambulance corps in New York
State, the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and
WHEREAS, Erik Nicolaysen has held every office in the Chappaqua Volun-
teer Ambulance Corps including Captain and Chairman; and
WHEREAS, Not only has he served in formal capacities, but Erik Nico-
laysen also has mentored and guided countless new recruits, EMTs, Driv-
ers and Aiders with his advice and example in the field; he continues to
share his experience with the Corps at monthly meetings and training
sessions; and
WHEREAS, Erik Nicolaysen has been instrumental in the growth of the
Corps into the outstanding public service organization that it is today;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to his service to the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambu-
lance Corps, Erik Nicolaysen has held numerous leadership roles in
public service and professional organizations, some of which include:
NYS Professional Insurance Agents, President; Fair Ridge Cemetery, Pres-
ident; New York State Auto Insurance Plan Governing Board; Assistant
Scout Master for two Chappaqua packs; Little League Coach; Chappaqua
Lions Club, President; New Castle Board of Assessment Review; and Chap-
paqua Rotary; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout his accomplished life have been his
supportive family, including his wife, Patricia, late son, Bruce, his
other children, Paul, Scott, and Lori, three step-children, Lynn Ann
Densen, Wendy Converse and Todd Kipperman, and 14 grandchildren, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer ambulance corps members are an important part of
the safety net of America's healthcare system; they provide lifesaving
care to those in need, 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, In the performance of his duties, Erik Nicolaysen has demon-
strated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others; he
is a tremendous asset to the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a
distinguished citizen of the State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Erik Nicolaysen for 50 years of ceaseless dedicated service to
the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Erik Nicolaysen.
