LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tracy Chapman upon the occasion of her
designation by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of its
2012 Special Appreciation Award on June 8, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and individuals whose purposeful endeavors, as
involved members of the community, enhance the quality of life therein;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Tracy Chapman upon the occasion of her designation by the Sidney Chamber
of Commerce as the recipient of its 2012 Special Appreciation Award; and
WHEREAS, Tracy Chapman is truly a person who strives to make Sidney a
better place in which to live; she will be honored by the Sidney Chamber
of Commerce for her dedication and service to the Sidney community at
the Chamber's Annual Dinner, to be held at the Sidney Elks Lodge on
Friday, June 8, 2012; and
WHEREAS, There is a special appreciation of Tracy Chapman for her
efforts in assisting the community with flood relief through the "Sidney
Rocks" event in the fall of 2011; she saw a need and opened up her heart
and place of business, Hillcrest Roller Rink, for over 100 caring volun-
teers to come together for ten hours of music, dancing and fun at a time
when spirits were low; and
WHEREAS, In addition,Tracy Chapman helped to organize a huge and
successful event that gave community members an opportunity to give of
their time, energy and talents to raise a significant amount for the
United Way Flood Relief Fund; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to recognize Tracy Chapman for
her commitment and contributions to Sidney and its quality of life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when the noble
aims and accomplishments of individuals such as Tracy Chapman are
brought to our attention it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and
commend them for the edification and emulation of others; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tracy Chapman upon the occasion of her designation by the Sidney
Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of its 2012 Special Appreciation
Award on June 8, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tracy Chapman.
