LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring distinguished veteran Loretta Weiss on
Memorial Day 2012

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body and the people
of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women have served their country; and
WHEREAS, On Memorial Day this Legislative Body is particularly proud
to commend those who have served our country in times of active
conflict, as well as those who have served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor distinguished
veteran Loretta Weiss on May 28, 2012, Memorial Day; and
WHEREAS, Loretta Weiss served in the United States Army with
distinction from 1942-1945 during World War II, and went back to serve
in the Korean War and in Vietnam, from September 1950 until her
discharge in February 1975, as a Supply Sergeant and performed confiden-
tial prep clearance as well; and
WHEREAS, For her service, Loretta Weiss justly earned numerous commen-
dations, ribbons, certificates of appreciation, and medals, including
the World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal Germany, National
Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal with
Silver Clasp and three Loops, Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak
Leaf Cluster, American Campaign Ribbon Women's Auxiliary Army, WAACS
Service Ribbon, American Service Medal, and the New York Medal; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Flushing, Queens, Loretta Weiss is a member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was honored to serve as the Grand
Marshal for the VFW in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Loretta Weiss has exhibited her patriotism both at home and
abroad, demonstrating her love for her country and meriting forevermore,
the highest respect of her State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized; commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor distinguished veteran Loretta Weiss on Memorial Day 2012; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Loretta Weiss.
