LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg upon
the occasion of their designation by The Hebrew Academy of the Five
Towns and Rockaway as the recipients of the Yachad Award at its 33rd
Annual Dinner on February 26, 2011

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Empire State are
greatly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who
devote themselves to endeavors of family, faith and community, and to
the education of the youth of the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg upon the occasion of their designation by
The Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR) as the recipi-
ents of the Yachad Award at its 33rd Annual Dinner, to be held at The
Sands Atlantic Beach on Saturday, February 26, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The greatest asset of any society is its children and the
hope and promise they represent for the future; The Hebrew Academy of
the Five Towns and Rockaway of Lawrence, New York, has a proud and rich
history of providing its students with an educational and religious
foundation which is both strong and enduring; and
WHEREAS, Each year at its Annual Dinner, The Hebrew Academy of the
Five Towns and Rockaway honors members of the school community in recog-
nition and appreciation of their support of the yeshiva and its mission,
as well as of their dedication to Jewish life; this year at its 33rd
Annual Dinner it will proudly honor Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg as
the recipients of its Yachad Award; and
WHEREAS, Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg both grew up in Long Island
and were classmates since the first grade at the Hebrew Academy of
Nassau County (HANC); they now reside in Cedarhurst together with their
children, Rachel Yocheved, Benjamin Rafi, Noah Gabriel and Hannah Eliza-
beth; and
WHEREAS, Jonathan Nierenberg has a degree in finance and accounting
from the Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University and a graduate
degree from the New York University School of Real Estate; after
completing his education, he went on to a career in accounting at Ernst
& Young and in Real Estate at CBRE-Insignia/Edward S. Gordon, and
currently serves as Senior Vice President of Business Development for
the IDT Corporation; and
WHEREAS, Alissa Nierenberg graduated from Queens College of The City
University of New York, earning her undergraduate degree with dual
majors in psychology and sociology and then went on to earn a master's
degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education; and
WHEREAS, Alissa Nierenberg was a kindergarten teacher at Yeshiva Har
Torah and then took a break from teaching to raise her rapidly expanding
family, after which she returned to work at Stepping Stone, an inte-
grated mainstream/special education school, and now teaches in HAFTR's
four-year nursery program; and
WHEREAS, Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg are both very active within
the HAFTR family as well as in the Five Towns community and numerous
charitable organizations; and
WHEREAS, They have chaired several Gift of Life drives and are most
appreciative of the HAFTR family's generous support of both time and
substance; and

WHEREAS, It is a testament to HAFTR, the wonderful Five Towns, and the
greater Jewish community that, as a result of these drives, over 1,700
bone marrow matches have been found leading to numerous lives saved; and
WHEREAS, Jonathan Nierenberg, in addition, serves on the HAFTR Board
of Trustees as well as that of the Bnei Akiva Schools in Israel; he is
one of the founding Co-Chairs of the Annual HAFTR Jacob Greenberg Memo-
rial Golf Classic and is an Ambassador to the Gift of Life Bone Marrow
Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Alissa Nierenberg is a valued and involved member of The
Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway's PTA; she has served on
the New Parents Welcome Committee and is also a past President of the
Young Israel of Woodmere Sisterhood; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to extend its highest commen-
dation to Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg for their dedication and
commitment to their heritage and to their community and its children;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg upon the occasion of their desig-
nation by The Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway as the
recipients of the Yachad Award at its 33rd Annual Dinner on February 26,
2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alissa and Jonathan Nierenberg.
