LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Phillip P. Nigro for receiving the Busi-
ness Award from the Willa Davis Women's Club

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Phillip P. Nigro for receiving the Business Award from the Willa Davis
Women's Club at its 103rd Celebration Luncheon on Saturday, May 19,
2012; and
WHEREAS, Phillip Nigro was born in Mount Vernon, New York, and grew up
in New Rochelle; at the age of 18, he went to work for the family busi-
ness, The Nigro Brothers; and
WHEREAS. Originally, Phillip Nigro's father, the late August Nigro
Sr., founded the company and upon his retirement, turned the company
over to Phillip's brother, August, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, August Nigro, Jr. changed the company to become Columbus
Construction Inc. and Canal Asphalt Inc.; Phillip Nigro began working as
a laborer in Local No. 60 for the company for eight years; and
WHEREAS, Phillip Nigro then changed his union book over to the Inter-
national Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 137 where he has
currently been the Plant Operator for the past 26 years; his family has
been working for over 20 years with regard to workforce diversity in the
company; and
WHEREAS, Phillip Nigro has personally trained many individuals with
great success; these young men and women have been valuable assets to
the company with regards to the New York State Department of Transporta-
tion and the New York City Department of Transportation along with
federal airport jobs; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the life in their community and have shown a long and sustained
commitment to excellence certainly have earned recognition and applause;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Phillip P. Nigro for receiving the Business Award from the Willa
Davis Women's Club; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Phillip P. Nigro.
