LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring First Lady Marcia Gray upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by the New Hope Missionary
Baptist Church on June 16, 2012

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, First Lady Marcia Gray has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor First Lady
Marcia Gray upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, to be celebrated at its First
Ladies Appreciation Banquet on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Imperial
Room in Inwood, New York; and
WHEREAS, First Lady Marcia Gray has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, First Lady Marcia Gray was born on the Island of Jamaica;
after graduating from high school in Jamaica, she immigrated to the
United States; and
WHEREAS, First Lady Marcia Gray began her lifelong dream of becoming a
Registered Nurse as soon as she arrived in America, by enrolling in the
nursing program at New York City Community College; and
WHEREAS, First Lady Marcia Gray continued her education at St. John's
College and earned a bachelor's degree in the Science of Nursing and
then a master's degree in Nursing Education from Molloy College; and
WHEREAS, First Lady Marcia Gray is currently the Nurse Manager of the
Oncology Infusion Center at New York Presbyterian Cornell Medical Center
in Manhattan, where she has worked for many years; and
WHEREAS, The wife of Overseer Evan Dean Gray Sr. of the Macedonia
Baptist Church, First Lady Marcia Gray wears many hats and has a lot of
responsibilities but her priorities are family and church; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, First Lady Marcia Gray has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband and their children,
Andrew, Alana, Evan Jr. and Erin, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which First Lady Marcia Gray has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor First Lady Marcia Gray upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on June
16, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to First Lady Marcia Gray.
