LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Linda Brown and Brenda Patch upon
the occasion of their designation as recipients of the 2012 Clayton
Citizen of the Year Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those people within the great Empire State who have made
strong contributions to their communities and the quality of life there-
in; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Linda Brown and Brenda Patch for their ceaseless, dedicated service to
the Clayton Community; and
WHEREAS, Sisters Linda Brown and Brenda Patch are recipients of the
2012 Clayton Citizen of the Year Award, and will be honored at a dinner
reception on June 20, 2012, at the Cerow Recreation Park Arena; and
WHEREAS, The Clayton Citizen of the Year Award is given to a citizen
or citizens of Clayton who participated in worthwhile community activ-
ities and projects, the effectiveness of the contributions made, leader-
ship and organizational qualities, and loyalty to the community and our
country; and
WHEREAS, The community involvement of Linda Brown and Brenda Patch is
numerous and varied including service to the Clayton Chamber of
Commerce, involvement with local museums and food pantries, and with the
Grindstone Island United Methodist Church, where they are lifelong
members; and
WHEREAS, Linda Brown and Brenda Patch have participated in many
endeavors on behalf of their community such as Clayton's Annual Christ-
mas Parade, The Grindstone Island Research and Heritage Center's yearly
Schoolhouse calendar fundraiser, and the annual planting of flowers each
Memorial Day Weekend on the graves of those Grindstone Islanders who
have no family left, carrying on a tradition started by their great
grandmothers; and
WHEREAS, Linda Brown and Brenda Patch are most noted for their work on
behalf of the annual Grindstone Island Quilt Show, consisting of over
one hundred precisely stitched quilts, hand crafted by Grindstone Island
ladies or their ancestors which tell stories of hardship, love and
tradition, the proceeds of which benefit several organizations; and
WHEREAS, The benevolent efforts and spirit of generosity of these
remarkable women serve as an inspiration to all of us; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when persons
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention it
is appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend those
individuals for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Linda Brown and Brenda Patch upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of the 2012 Clayton Citizen of the Year Award; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Linda Brown and Brenda Patch.
