LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tom Corcoran upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by St. John the Baptist Diocesan
High School

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals who have shown a long-standing commitment
to improving the quality of life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tom
Corcoran upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School at its 2012 Gentlemen's Dinner
to be held at the View Restaurant in Oakdale, New York, on Tuesday, June
19, 2012; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Tom Corcoran has continually
demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to both his profession and communi-
ty; and
WHEREAS, A Babylon, New York, native, Tom Corcoran was a student at
St. Joseph's Elementary School and continued on to attend St. John the
Baptist, where he played football, basketball and lacrosse; he was a
member of the 1981 football team that won the Metro Bowl for St. John's;
and
WHEREAS, Graduating in 1982 from St. John the Baptist Diocesan High
School, Tom Corcoran went on to attend Harvard University where he was a
four-year varsity lacrosse player who was elected captain in his senior
year, obtaining All American status; and
WHEREAS, Earning his economics degree from Harvard University in 1986,
Tom Corcoran went to work on Wall Street where he had a 22-year career
at Lehman Brothers, working as a Managing Director in the Fixed Income
Division; in addition, he directed the functioning of the High Grade
Corporate Credit team; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Tom Corcoran is the President of Imperial Capital
LLC which is a small, full service investment bank with offices in Los
Angeles, London, New York, Boston and Chicago; he is also a co-owner of
Horace and Sylvia's restaurant in Babylon Village; and
WHEREAS, With athletics having always been a central theme in Tom
Corcoran's life, after college, he played professional lacrosse for the
New Jersey Arrows, and was an avid triathlete, competing in over 50
races, including two Ironman competitions; and
WHEREAS, A Bay Shore resident, Tom Corcoran is active with the alumni
association of his alma mater, having served as the past President of
the Harvard Club of Long Island and the Co-Chair of the Harvard Schools
Committee; he is also involved with the Wounded Warrior Program and the
Bart J. Ruggiere Adaptive Sports Center; and
WHEREAS, With education being important to Tom Corcoran and his fami-
ly, he founded "The Mary Grant" at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High
School; this award was named in honor of his mother, Mary Corcoran; the
Mary Grant, through the Make It Count Foundation, gives scholarships to
two St. John's students who have overcome obstacles and are successful
in school; and
WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Tom Corcoran has been
called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic and
charitable endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Lori, and their three
daughters, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tom Corcoran upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Corcoran.
