LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 85th Anniversary of the Creedm-
oor Civic Association on July 21, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 85th Anniversary of the Creedmoor Civic Association on Satur-
day, July 21, 2012; and
WHEREAS, On this most auspicious occasion the Creedmoor Civic Associ-
ation will be honoring 3 individuals who have each served as its Presi-
dent for over 11 years: James Trent, Rose Daddario and Richard Duskiew-
icz; and
WHEREAS, The Creedmoor Civic Association was founded as a voluntary
association in 1927; it takes its name from the subdivision, the Creedm-
oor Homes, in which it was located; and
WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1938, the Creedmoor Civic Association's boun-
daries are: Moline Street to the west, 88th Avenue to the north, the
south bound Cross Island Parkway service road to the east, and Braddock
Avenue to the south; and
WHEREAS, There are approximately 700 buildings in the civic area, most
of which are one or two family houses; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Creedmoor Civic Association has been
involved in countless efforts to maintain or improve the quality of life
for its residents, and for the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, In the early days, civic members fought for the construction
of schools and the paving of main thoroughfares; and
WHEREAS, During World War II, the members of the Creedmoor Civic Asso-
ciation prepared and sent packages to soldiers overseas; and
WHEREAS, In later years, the Creedmoor Civic Association fought for
bus service, storm sewers and street lights; and
WHEREAS, The Creedmoor Civic Association has also fought against full
value real estate assessment for tax purposes and was instrumental in
the formation of the Queens Farm Museum and the Joint Bellerose Business
District Development Corporation; and
WHEREAS, The Creedmoor Civic Association is an active participant in
the Queens Civic Congress; and
WHEREAS, Currently, the Creedmoor Civic Association is working with
neighboring civic groups to preserve the low rise, low density character
of Bellerose; and
WHEREAS, In this effort, the Creedmoor Civic Association has been
working for sensible development of the Creedmoor Hospital Campus, with-
in the context of the surrounding neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, The association is working with City Planning, elected offi-
cials and neighboring civic associations to draft appropriate changes to
zoning regulations; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the Creedmoor Civic Association on
July 21, 2012; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Creedmoor Civic Association.
