LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of William J. O'Neil, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, William O'Neil of Buffalo, New York, died on April 9, 2012,
at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, William O'Neil distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, William O'Neil was a former assistant chief of narcotics in
the Erie County Sheriff's Office; born in Buffalo, he was an usher at
St. Joseph Cathedral, an active member of Madeira Beach Post 273, and a
vice commander for Squadron 735, Sons of the American Legion, in West
Seneca; and
WHEREAS, William O'Neil worked in the Sheriff's Office for 35 years,
retiring at 55 years of age; he also served as a corrections officer,
radio dispatcher, road deputy, detective and detective sergeant of
narcotics; and
WHEREAS, Following retirement, William O'Neil lived in Buffalo for six
months of the year and in St. Petersburg, Florida for the other six
months; and
WHEREAS, William O'Neil's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, William O'Neil is survived by his wife, Judy and his three
daughters, Kathleen, Patricia and Charlene; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, William O'Neil leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of William J. O'Neil, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of William J. O'Neil.
