LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael Mongiello upon the occasion of
his selection as the Way to Go student by NEWSDAY

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michael Mongiello upon the occasion of his selection as the Way to Go
student by NEWSDAY; and
WHEREAS, Michael Mongiello is a fifth grade student at Dogwood Elemen-
tary School in Smithtown, New York; and
WHEREAS, This spring, Michael Mongiello raised significant funds
through donations from family and friends, and then shaved his head to
support the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a childhood cancer society; and
WHEREAS, Michael Mongiello raised the funds by sending out emails,
distributing fliers and promoting his effort on Facebook; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Michael Mongiello wore a pin with the phrase,
"Ask Me Why I'm Bald" for several weeks following the event in an effort
to further educate people about the charity; and
WHEREAS, Michael Mongiello is a member of his school's Peanut Butter
Gang, a student group that provides care packages to less fortunate
people in his local community; and
WHEREAS, Michael Mongiello is also a member of the student council and
plays trumpet, lacrosse and football; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Mongiello upon the occasion of his selection as the Way to
Go student by NEWSDAY; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Mongiello.
