LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Saint
Gregory the Great School, to be celebrated on Friday, July 20, 2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of this noble Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Saint Gregory the Great School, to be
celebrated on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Grand Prospect Hall; and
WHEREAS, This fine event is the Award Dinner Dance and will be later
followed by another celebration on Sunday, September 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Located in Brooklyn, New York, Saint Gregory the Great Roman
Catholic School was established in 1912 and shares in the education
mission of the Church with all parents and guardians; it is a unique
school since it is a catholic community which endeavors to foster spir-
itual, intellectual, emotional, social, moral and physical growth of all
students through a living of the Gospel and an academic environment; and
WHEREAS, Saint Gregory's is located in the beautiful Crown Heights
section of Brooklyn and provides for students from Nursery through Grade
8; the school is a ministry of Saint Gregory the Great Parish and is
staffed totally with lay educators and consists of predominantly West
Indian and African-American descendants; and
WHEREAS, The goal of Saint Gregory the Great School is to meet high
standards along with building up students in a very positive way so as
to obtain a higher standard for the growth of the church and civil soci-
ety; and
WHEREAS, Accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and
Schools, Saint Gregory the Great School is ably led by Principal Rudolph
Cyrus-Charles; this outstanding individual has been instrumental in
helping the school prosper today and into the future; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the intent of this Legislative Body to
support and promote the educational institutions that provide the young
people of the State of New York with the confidence and knowledge neces-
sary to become successful in today's society; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Saint Gregory the Great School, to
be celebrated on Friday, July 20, 2012; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mr. Rudolph Cyrus-Charles, Principal, Saint Gregory the Great
School.
