LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Madriana Charles upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by Mauby Media Services

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those esteemed residents of the State of New York who dedicate their
lives to the improvement of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Madriana Charles has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Madriana
Charles upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
Mauby Media Services, celebrated on Friday, September 21, 2012, at St.
Jude Community Center in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Mauby Media Services is hosting the "Salute to Yesterday's
Children" event, which is a benefit and award ceremony acknowledging
community elders; and
WHEREAS, Madriana Charles was born in Arima, Trinidad, and attended
the Girls Government School; her fondest childhood pastime was playing
hopscotch and pitching marbles; and
WHEREAS, Madriana Charles was a babysitter for many years and eventu-
ally took up sewing, however, her cherished ambition was to be a profes-
sional singer; a mother of eight, she immigrated to the United States in
1968 and worked as a home attendant and Nurse's Aide; and
WHEREAS, Madriana Charles' secret to living long is to put God first
in your life; her desire is to visit St. Vincent, the land of her moth-
er, where she could connect with family that she does not know; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Madriana Charles's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Madriana Charles upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Mauby Media Services; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Madriana Charles.
