LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard Gottlieb, of Rock and Snow in
New Paltz, upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Leadership Award for Corporate Philanthropy by the Association of
Fundraising Professionals Mid Hudson Valley Chapter

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of the community are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Richard Gottlieb has given not only of this time and ener-
gies, but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Richard Gott-
lieb, of Rock and Snow in New Paltz, upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of the Leadership Award for Corporate Philanthropy
by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Mid Hudson Valley Chap-
ter; and
WHEREAS, Richard Gottlieb, through his business, Rock and Snow, both
he and his entire staff have promoted community activism and investment,
and consequently have been recognized with this auspicious award; and
WHEREAS, The Association of Fundraising Professionals is an organiza-
tion that empowers individuals to help make a difference through philan-
thropy and provide cost-effective education, networking and professional
resources close to home; the Mid Hudson Valley Chapter serves the coun-
ties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster; and
WHEREAS, Richard Gottlieb's passion for rock and ice climbing began in
the early 1970s, and has allowed him to explore the world, new experi-
ences and has brought him closer to nature; and
WHEREAS, He began working at Rock and Snow in New Paltz in 1982 and
purchased the business in 2000; Rock and Snow carries the newest and
most innovative gear and clothing related to climbing and other forms of
human powered outdoor recreation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Richard Gottlieb and his staff have helped to
educate recreation seekers and residents, while at the same time inspir-
ing others to take part in efforts to help protect the Shawangunk Moun-
tains; and
WHEREAS, Richard Gottlieb and his staff at Rock and Snow also support
numerous local nonprofits and causes such as, hosting the New Paltz
Farmer's Market to support local farmers and attract tourism; they are a
major sponsor of the "Turkey Trot" to benefit Family of New Paltz; they
have provided space for Habitat for Artists, and have hosted several
fundraising events to encourage donations and provide support to local
organizations; Richard has a belief that investing in the community is
one of the best investments a corporation can make; and
WHEREAS, Richard Gottlieb has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic endeavors and has always given of himself
selflessly; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Teri, and their
daughter, Celia, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life
and share in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard Gottlieb, of Rock and Snow in New Paltz, upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Leadership Award for Corporate

Philanthropy by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Mid Hudson
Valley Chapter; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard Gottlieb, 50 Hillside Avenue, Highland, New York
12528.
