LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Asian American Restaurant Associ-
ation upon the occasion of its Lunar New Year celebration on March 2,
2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that individuals and
organizations that work to improve the quality of life of the communi-
ties they serve merit the highest commendation of this Legislative Body
and the people of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Asian American Restaurant Association (AARA) upon the occasion of its
Lunar New Year celebration on March 2, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year is the most important and most popular of
festivals observed by Asian Americans; it is always greeted with much
preparation and much celebration; and
WHEREAS, In keeping with that tradition, the Asian American Restaurant
Association will proudly host a festive Lunar New Year celebration
welcoming the Year of the Rabbit 4709 at New York City's Jade Asian
Restaurant on Wednesday, March 2, 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Asian American Restaurant Association was founded by
renowned chefs and restaurant owners who are dedicated economic activ-
ists for New York City; and
WHEREAS, AARA represents and promotes the Asian restaurant industry;
it works diligently to raise the level of professionalism within the
industry and to heighten awareness of the importance of food safety
education throughout the restaurant and foodservice industry; and
WHEREAS, AARA advocates on behalf of Asian restaurant owners, offers
and encourages mutual support among members, conducts research for group
insurance plans and seeks employment for workers and for restaurant
owners; and, in addition, educates restaurant owners by holding seminars
on New York law, sanitation, cooking methods and manners appropriate for
foodservice personnel; and
WHEREAS, Included in its many worthy and successful endeavors is "A
Taste of New York," an exclusive food extravaganza AARA held featuring
exceptional delicacies and specialties of selected New York City restau-
rants; it attracted more than 3500 attendees and introduced and helped
popularize Asian cuisines among the general public through food tasting,
demonstrations and hands on experiences with chefs throughout the day;
and
WHEREAS, It is with pleasure and great pride that this Legislative
Body recognizes and pays tribute to the Asian American community of the
City and State of New York, its citizens, institutions, and organiza-
tions upon the occasion of the celebration of the Lunar New Year; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Asian American Restaurant Association upon the occasion of its
Lunar New Year celebration at the Jade Asian Restaurant on March 2,
2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Asian American Restaurant Association.
