LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Great Neck South High School upon
the occasion of placing first in the Regional Science Bowl

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people, who by achieving outstanding success in
educational competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Great Neck South High School upon the occasion of placing first in
the Regional Science Bowl; and
WHEREAS, The contest was held at the United States Department of Ener-
gy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on January 29, 2011; and
WHEREAS, With this victory, Great Neck South High School will be
invited to participate in the National Science Bowl on April 29 - May 3,
2011, in Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Brookhaven Science Associates and the Long Island Science
Center sponsored the local tournament, a fast-paced question-and-answer
contest designed to test high school students' knowledge of biology,
chemistry, physics, mathematics, energy, earth science, and general
science; and
WHEREAS, The Regional Science Bowl at Brookhaven, along with 69 other
regional contests around the country, is part of the National Science
Bowl competition coordinated by the Department of Energy's Office of
Science; since its inception in 1991, more than 150,000 high school
students have participated in the "Jeopardy"-style contest; by challeng-
ing themselves in Science Bowl competitions, students are encouraged to
excel in science and math and to pursue careers in those fields; and
WHEREAS, Coached by James Truglio, the Great Neck South High School
Science Bowl team members are: Eve Matthaey, Joshua Cho, Brian Chang,
Daniel Lee and Eric Bobrow; they are true assets to society; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Great Neck South High School upon the occasion of placing
first in the Regional Science Bowl; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach James Truglio, and to the aforementioned Great Neck
South High School Science Bowl team members.
