LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Loring E. Miller upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Good Deed Award by Matinecock
District of the Suffolk Boy Scouts

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those extraordinary individuals who have made contributions to the
success and progress of society in the course of their life's work; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Loring E.
Miller upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Good
Deed Award by the Matinecock District of the Suffolk Boy Scouts, to be
celebrated on Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Watermill Caterers in Smith-
town, New York; and
WHEREAS, Best known for his law enforcement support work in his capac-
ities as Chairman and President of the Nassau and Suffolk County Police
Reserves respectively, Loring Miller's leadership has helped place both
of those organizations in a position as the premier police support
groups on Long Island; police reserves provide moral support as well as
scholarships and meritorious awards to recognize achievements of law
enforcement officers in each county; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Melville, Loring Miller serves as Executive
Vice President and Rewards Chairman of Crime Stoppers of Suffolk County;
he is a member of both the Nassau County Law Enforcement Explorers Advi-
sory Board and the Board of the New York Law Enforcement Foundation
along with the Honorary Deputy Commissioner Foundation; and
WHEREAS, In conjunction with the police reserves, Loring Miller is
President of Associate Lodge No. 4 of the New York State Fraternal Order
of Police; he serves as Scholarship Chairman for the Chiefs' of Police
Association of Suffolk County, and jointly sponsors a "Top Cop" program
for village and local police departments on Long Island in connection
with both the Suffolk County and the Nassau County Police Chiefs' Asso-
ciations; and
WHEREAS, Until 2003, Loring Miller served as a member of the Main
Board of Directors for the SPCA and as a Peace Officer and Director of
Special Operations in its Law Enforcement Division; he considered it
both a duty and a privilege to volunteer his time in the rescue effort
at the World Trade Center Ground Zero in the days immediately following
the September 11, 2001, Disaster; and
WHEREAS, That particular experience led to Loring Miller's idea for
the design and distribution by the police reserves of more than 8,500
"09-11-01" Uniform Citation Bars to at least 45 law enforcement agencies
in order to help honor and commemorate all of the lives lost on that day
and to recognize the assistance provided by all of the police agencies;
and
WHEREAS, Loring Miller is a partner with his wife, Ilene, in the
Loring E. Miller Insurance Agency for over 30 years, and Director of
Field Operations for National Surveillance & Security; in the past, he
has served as a committee member and as the Cubmaster for Pack 457 in
Dix Hills; and
WHEREAS, Along with his wife, Ilene, with him throughout have been
their three children and two grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged
and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Loring Miller's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Loring E. Miller upon the occasion of his designation as recipient

of the Good Deed Award by the Matinecock District of the Suffolk Boy
Scouts; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Loring E. Miller.
