LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Hafiz Rehman upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Community Leadership Award by the
Suffolk County Community College Foundation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Hafiz Rehman has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Hafiz
Rehman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Communi-
ty Leadership Award by the Suffolk County Community College Foundation;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Suffolk
County Community College Foundation's Salute to Excellence Dinner on
Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Long Island, Hauppauge,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Kenya, Dr. Hafiz Rehman immigrated to the
United States in 1974, and has since lived in Suffolk County; he is a
pediatrician in Bay Shore and presently a Senior Pediatric Attending at
both Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center and Southside Hospital; and
WHEREAS, A Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics and Fellow of
the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Hafiz Rehman has received numer-
ous Pediatric awards and was previously an Adjunct Clinical Professor of
Pediatrics at the New York Institute of Technology and College of Osteo-
pathic Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Hafiz Rehman has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Dr. Hafiz Rehman is a past member
of Bay Shore Clergy Association and currently a member of Bay Shore
Interfaith Council and the Anti-bias Task Force of the Town of Islip;
and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Dr. Hafiz Rehman actively promotes religious under-
standing, quality education and quality healthcare for all individuals
through his affiliation with numerous national and international organ-
izations; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Hafiz Rehman has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Hafiz Rehman has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Hafiz Rehman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Community Leadership Award by the Suffolk County Community
College Foundation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Hafiz Rehman.
