LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Sachem North High School
Varsity Cheerleading Team and Coaches Nicole Roggemann and Christine
Sturges upon the occasion of capturing the 2012 UCA High School Cheer-
leading Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Sachem North High School Varsity Cheerleading Team upon the occasion of
capturing the National Championship title on Sunday, February 12, 2012,
at the UCA High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida;
and
WHEREAS, In contending for this coveted title, the Sachem North High
School Varsity Cheerleading Team competed against 41 pre-qualifying
teams from 33 states across the United States; and
WHEREAS, Competitive cheer routines consist of 2 minutes and 30
seconds of high-energy music sections and a cheer section and take
approximately 9 months of training; the first music section consists of
tumbling/gymnastics, jumps, partner stunt sequences, and single based
stunts; and
WHEREAS, The cheer section of the competition consists of traditional
sideline cheering with opportunity for crowd involvement, as you would
see at a football or basketball game, with more difficult stunt transi-
tions; and
WHEREAS, After competing in the preliminary round, the Sachem North
High School Cheerleaders received the top score of the Medium Varsity
Division 1 (16 members-large school) and were given an automatic bid to
the final round, bypassing the semi-finals; and
WHEREAS, Hitting a near perfect routine at the finals, the Sachem
North High School Varsity Cheerleading team took home the Championship
title for the first time ever in the school's history; and
WHEREAS, The Sachem North High School cheerleaders had a very success-
ful competitive season; on Long Island, they had two 2nd place and one
1st place finish; and
WHEREAS, At the Long Island Championship, the Sachem North High School
cheerleaders placed second before going on to the National Championship;
and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coaches Nicole Roggemann and Christine Sturges,
skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop
potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Sachem North High School Varsity Cheer-
leading Team, from the start of the season to participation in the cham-
pionship, were a sisterhood of athletic ability, of good sportsmanship,
of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team players are
second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Coaches Nicole Roggemann and Christine Sturges have done a
superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the team members toward
their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coaches Nicole Roggemann and Christine Sturges and
their outstanding athletes have clearly made a contribution to the spir-
it of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Sachem North High School Varsity Cheerleading Team; its
members: Danielle Gresafi (captain), Kelly McCabe (captain), Jennifer
Isik (captain), Leah Allen, Toni-Ann Agostinelli, Rachel Lebow, Emily
Newman, Kristina Hadnagy, Regina Sarrubbo, Haley DeSimone, Emily Rath-
mann, Samantha Gambino, Brianna Napolitano, Kaitlin Keohane, Shannon
Foster, Samantha Bozza, April Nothdurft, Amanda Prince and Reanna Tera-
no; and Coaches Nicole Roggemann and Christine Sturges on their
outstanding season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Sachem North High School Varsity Cheerleading Team and to
Coaches Nicole Roggemann and Christine Sturges.
