LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Hannah Guskie of Shaker High
School upon the occasion of her designation as 2012 Teenager of the Year
by the Colonie Elks Lodge

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Hannah Guskie of Shaker High School upon the occasion of her desig-
nation as 2012 Teenager of the Year by the Colonie Elks Lodge, to be
celebrated on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Colonie Town Supervisors
Office in Newtonville, New York; and
WHEREAS, A self-directed, conscientious and enthusiastic senior at
Shaker High School, Hannah Guskie has accumulated an impressive list of
achievements during her outstanding high school career and is currently
in the top 5% of her class, having maintained a 4.0 GPA; and
WHEREAS, Inducted into the National Honor Society in 11th grade,
Hannah Guskie's achievements and honors are impressive and numerous; she
has been a National Merit Scholarship Program Finalist, National Russian
Essay Contest Finalist, recipient of the Shaker High School Leadership
Award, and named Youth Volunteer of the Year at S.T.E.P., to name a few;
and
WHEREAS, Hannah Guskie's extracurricular activities are equally
remarkable; she has four years of participation in the Shaker Biology
Club, three years in Student Government, four years as a member of the
Scrapbooking Club, an FCCLA member for the past three years, and a Key
Club member for the last three years, as well; and
WHEREAS, Outside of school, Hanna Guskie is a valued and involved
member of her community, serving as a volunteer for S.T.E.P., an organ-
ization which gives children with disabilities the opportunity to ride a
horse; she is also a volunteer at Vacation Bible School and an active
participant in her church's youth group; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young person has been the recipient of numer-
ous awards and accolades, some of which include Super Teen of America
2011, the Black Belt Perseverance Award, Outstanding Student of the
Year, and the Discus Award; and
WHEREAS, Hannah Guskie was selected for this special honor because of
her strong academic performance, her service to the school, and her
commitment to the community; and
WHEREAS, Hannah Guskie's sense of civic duty and her commitment to
others represents the best development of the potential which is inher-
ent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Hannah Guskie of Shaker High School upon the occasion of
her designation as 2012 Teenager of the Year by the Colonie Elks Lodge;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hannah Guskie.
