LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jeanne Hogan upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Tyburn Academy of Mary Imma-
culate on August 10, 2012

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Jeanne Hogan has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jeanne Hogan
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
Tyburn Academy, to be celebrated at its Gala on Friday, August 10, 2012;
and
WHEREAS, Born Jeanne Mary Killian, Jeanne married the love of her
life, John P. Hogan on June 23, 1951; and
WHEREAS, This loving union produced 12 children, all of whom Jeanne
Hogan instilled with a love of learning and all of whom attended
college; and
WHEREAS, Jeanne Hogan has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Jeanne Hogan worked as a teacher at Auburn High School teach-
ing 9th grade English for many years before her retirement in 1996; and
WHEREAS, Answering the request of her dear friend Fr. Albert Shamon,
Jeanne Hogan began teaching English, Theology and Economics at Tyburn
Academy and 2 1/2 years later, she answered another call to become its
principal; and
WHEREAS, The Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate is a private, independ-
ent middle school/high school in the Catholic tradition, chartered by
the New York State Board of Regents; since 1993, it has proudly served
the students in the City of Auburn as well as the entire Finger Lakes
region; and
WHEREAS, For 13 years, Jeanne Hogan managed everything at Tyburn Acad-
emy of Mary Immaculate from finances to curriculum to personnel to
infrastructure, earning the respect of colleagues, students, parents and
members of the community; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure, Jeanne Hogan guided school transition from
three students on Pulaski Street in a rented building, to a blossoming
school of 25 students on Wallace Avenue, and finally to the present
school on Clymer Street with an enrollment of 80 students; and
WHEREAS, Following through with Fr. Shamon's wishes to provide a feed-
er program for Tyburn, and directed by the Tyburn Academy School Board,
Jeanne Hogan initiated a middle school in 2008 to include grades 6-8;
and
WHEREAS, In 2011, Jeanne Hogan transitioned her principal's role to
her son-in-law, Patrick Collier, but remains in a leadership role at
Tyburn Academy as a spiritual advisor and constant source of support;
and
WHEREAS, For the last 84 years, Jeanne Hogan's life has revolved
around her faith, her family, her friends and Tyburn Academy; she gives
new meaning to the phrase, "Life begins at 60"; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Jeanne Hogan has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout her accomplished life have been her
supportive family, including her late husband, John, and their children,

Thomas Andrew, Mary Kathleen, John Joseph, Richard Timothy, Jean Mary de
Lourdes, Marianne, Michael Curtis, James Patrick, Francis Joseph,
Patrick Edward, Margaret Mary, and Julie Elizabeth, as well as her 45
grandchildren, her one great-grandchild, and another great-grandchild on
the way, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Jeanne Hogan has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jeanne Hogan upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate on August 10, 2012;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jeanne Hogan.
