LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ron Carlson upon the occasion of his
retirement after 35 years of distinguished service to the Village of
Port Jefferson

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ron
Carlson upon the occasion of his retirement after 35 years of distin-
guished service to the Village of Port Jefferson to be celebrated on
Friday, March 11, 2011, at Lombardi's on the Sound at Port Jefferson
Country Club, Port Jefferson, New York; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Ron Carlson rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service as Director of Parks and Recreation
to the Village of Port Jefferson, serving with loyalty, honor and
distinction; and
WHEREAS, Beginning his career with the Village of Port Jefferson in
1975, Ron Carlson after one short year established a Parks Division for
the village; he then expanded it further, adding a Senior Adult Division
thereby creating a full-service Recreation and Parks Department, serving
all age groups; and
WHEREAS, Shortly after, Ron Carlson initiated a popular Annual Harbor
Front Concert Series, bringing entertainment each summer to thousands of
people in Port Jefferson and its surrounding area; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man was also responsible for beginning the
Annual Village Golf Tournament, forming monthly bus trips to surrounding
areas, expanding the Adult Softball League and initiating a Broom
Brigade to help with a Village-wide clean up; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Ron Carlson helped to promote the Annual Arts and
Crafts Show and a year-round beautification program, as well as the
first Annual Village Biathlon; and
WHEREAS, After the development of the new Village Center, Ron Carlson
took over as the first Village Center Director, a position he held for
five years until his recent retirement; and
WHEREAS, Under Ron Carlson's luminous leadership, the Village of Port
Jefferson's Department of Parks and Recreation has won 13 awards for
excellence in journals, programming, annual reports, and facility
design; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Ron Carlson was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Village of Port Jefferson, Ron
Carlson earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ron Carlson upon the occasion of his retirement after 35 years of
distinguished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ron Carlson.
