LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 45th Anniversary of Chautauqua
Opportunities, Inc., April 7, 2011

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 45th Anniversary of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc.; this
auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Thursday, April 7, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. (COI) is a private, not-for-
profit, community based organization incorporated in 1965 as part of a
network of 1100 Community Action Agencies formed to implement the initi-
atives on the war on poverty; since that time, COI has evolved in
response to local needs and conditions and now has a number of desig-
nations and licenses related to specific programs; and
WHEREAS, COI's mission is to lead the fight against poverty by mobi-
lizing resources and creating partnerships to promote empowerment,
economic independence and opportunity; and
WHEREAS, A grassroots agency, both governed by and serving the people
of Chautauqua County, COI's 18 member Board of Directors is drawn from
the community it serves and is made up in equal parts of representatives
of the private sector, public sector and low-income community; and
WHEREAS, COI also carries out economic development activities through
an affiliate agency called Chautauqua Opportunities for Development,
Inc. (CODI) which has been designated a Community Development Financial
Institution through the United States Treasury Department; and
WHEREAS, CODI's Mission is to lead the fight against poverty by mobi-
lizing resources and creating partnerships to promote and create econom-
ic independence through business development and opportunities; and
WHEREAS, COI has evolved in response to local needs and conditions and
has a number of designations and licenses related to its specific
programs, including: Community Development Corporation affiliated with
the National Community Action Partnership; registered charity in New
York State; HUD Housing Counseling Agency; Community Housing Development
Organization; Community Development Corporation; Rural Preservation
Company under the New York State Division of Housing and Community
Renewal; Licensed Home Care Agency; Licensed Runaway and Homeless Youth
Shelter provider and New York State Licensed Child Care Provider and
Child Care Resource and Referral Service; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Chautauqua Opportu-
nities, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an organ-
ization of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our atten-
tion, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 45th Anniversary of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc.; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc.
