LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jimmie Johnson upon the occasion
of winning his fifth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary athletes who have excelled in professional sports,
distinguishing themselves through notable achievements and representing
humanity to the fullest; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jimmie Johnson upon the occasion of winning his fifth consecutive
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title; and
WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson made professional sports history in 2010 by
earning his fifth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title; he is the
only driver in the sport's 62-year history to accomplish the feat, and
his amazing accomplishment this year also earned him several awards; and
WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson was voted Driver of the Year for the fourth
time in his career; by doing so, he tied Jeff Gordon for the most wins
in the prestigious award's 44 year history; and
WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson has won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion-
ship in a record-setting five consecutive seasons (2006, 2007, 2008,
2009, and 2010) in the No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet Impala SS;
and
WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson delivered a record-breaking 10th NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series Championship for car owner Rick Hendrick; and
WHEREAS, Jimmie Johnson's charity, The Jimmie Johnson Foundation, has
raised a significant amount of money dedicated to assisting children,
families and communities in need throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Jimmie Johnson Foundation has helped save tens of thou-
sands of lives through blood collection and by adding individuals to the
National Marrow Donor Program Registry; and
WHEREAS, Racing fans in New York are vital to NASCAR, and New York is
home to Watkins Glen International, the host of one NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series event annually; and
WHEREAS, His two pole position wins and many impressive top 10
finishes at Watkins Glen International have helped him build momentum
leading into the final stretch of the season resulting in his five
consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series titles; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor Jimmie
Johnson for his extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a trib-
ute to his skill, dedication and commitment; his character and achieve-
ments stand as a sterling example and inspiration to all who would
aspire to success; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jimmie Johnson upon the occasion of winning his fifth
consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title, and to commend Rick
Hendrick, and the No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools team on their outstanding
achievements; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jimmie Johnson and Rick Hendrick.
