LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the New York Mills Varsity Boys'
Basketball Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2011 New York State
Class D Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, On March 19, 2011, the New York Mills Varsity Boys' Basket-
ball Team captured the Class D New York State Public High School Athlet-
ic Association Boy's Basketball Championship with a 47-42 win over Cole-
man Catholic High School at the Glens Falls Civic Center; and
WHEREAS, Capping a perfect 24-0 season, the Marauders of New York
Mills won their first New York State championship since 1982; the win
was their 47th in the last 48 games and their 55th win in the last 57
games; their only losses during this amazing streak were to the 2009 and
2010 state champions, South Kortright and Maple Grove; and
WHEREAS, The New York Mills Varsity Boys' Basketball Team hadn't
played in a New York State championship game since its legendary coach,
Mike Tomassetti's team beat Tuckahoe in 1982; and
WHEREAS, The Head Coach of the 2010-2011 New York Mills Varsity Boys'
Basketball Team, Mike Adey, is to be inducted into the New York State
Basketball Hall of Fame; Coach Adey's record in 30 years as a high
school basketball coach is an outstanding 462-156, and his record at New
York Mills in 13 years is 238-59; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the 2010-2011 New York Mills
Varsity Boys' Basketball Team is due in great part to the efforts of
Head Coach Mike Adey, Associate Head Coach, Brian Adey, and Assistant
Coaches, Charlie Ferguson, Michael Keating and John Stevener; skilled
and inspirational mentors, respected for their ability to develop poten-
tial into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record is outstanding, and the team
members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans,
friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the 2010-2011 New York Mills Varsity Boys'
Basketball Team, from the opening game of the season to capturing the
Class D New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boy's
Basketball Championship, were a brotherhood of athletic ability, of good
sportsmanship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these
team players are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Mike Adey and his coaching staff have done a
superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the 2010-2011 New York
Mills Varsity Boys' Basketball Team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment; Head Coach Mike Adey, his coaching staff, and the 2010-
2011 New York Mills Varsity Boys' Basketball Team's outstanding athletes
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 2010-2011 New York Mills Varsity Boys' Basketball Team;

its members: Jonathan Ross, Shane Joswick, James Fellone, Nicholas
Etienne, Addison Wolanin, Jacob Kehrli, Richard Matrassi, Cody Mariotti,
Justin Stevener, Captain Jeffrey Albright, Captain Fred Russ, and
Matthew Welch; Head Coach, Mike Adey, Associate Head Coach, Brian Adey
and Assistant Coaches, Charlie Ferguson, Michael Keating and John Stev-
ener; Head Manager, Cameron Jennings, and Assistant Managers, George
Albert, Nathan Hartman, Casey Rice and Joe Tolpa; on their New York
State Class D championship, their outstanding season and league champi-
onship, and their overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members, coaching staff and managers of the 2010-2011 New
York Mills Varsity Boys' Basketball Team.
