LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Food Bank of the Southern Tier
upon the occasion of the unveiling of its new facility in Elmira
Heights, New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those organizations and individuals who devote their energy, resources
and thoughtful care to improving the quality and character of life in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Food Bank of the Southern Tier upon the occasion of the unveiling of
its new facility in Elmira Heights, New York; and
WHEREAS, Upon reaching the limits of their facility, the Food Bank of
the Southern Tier moved to a larger 65,000 square foot facility in near-
by Elmira Heights, New York, on Thursday, March 10, 2011; and
WHEREAS, For over 30 years, this vital Food Bank has been the leading
hunger-relief organization in the Southern Tier region; and
WHEREAS, The Food Bank's network of over 185 hunger-relief agencies
includes food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, residential programs,
day care programs, senior feeding programs and other not-for-profit
organizations located throughout the six county service area of Broome,
Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Tompkins; and
WHEREAS, The new facility includes a drive-in commercial freezer and
refrigerator; through this facility, food distribution has grown from
1.5 million pounds in 1997 to nearly 7 million pounds today; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its volunteers and staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the Food Bank and the popu-
lation it serves; and
WHEREAS, Organizations of such singular distinction as the Food Bank
of the Southern Tier provide a model for enhancing the quality of life
in the community and, as such, merit the grateful praise of the citizens
of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Food Bank of the Southern Tier upon the occasion of the
unveiling of its new facility in Elmira Heights, New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Avenue,
Elmira, New York.
