LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Walton Reformed Presbyterian
Church upon the occasion of celebrating its 150th Anniversary on July
16, 2011

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social, and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church upon the occasion of celebrating 150
years as a congregation on July 16, 2011, with a celebration to be held
at the church, in Walton, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church was officially organ-
ized on September 5, 1861, with two elders and two deacons elected;
minutes show that nineteen people presented themselves to be admitted to
the privileges of the church; in 1863, the first house of worship was
erected, five miles from Walton, and on December 16, 1863, Dr. David
McAllister was installed as the first Pastor; and
WHEREAS, In 1874, the Walton congregation moved the church building
from its location in the country to the village of Walton, erecting the
church on the site where it remains today; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished history, the congregants of the
Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church have been active participants within
the community, playing an important role in the history of Walton, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church stands on the thresh-
old of tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades
while retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is only fitting to take note of enduring religious insti-
tutions and to bring such institutions to the attention of the people of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, he it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church upon the occasion of
celebrating its 150th Anniversary on July 16, 2011; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church, at the corner of
East and Bruce Streets, Walton, New York 13856.
