LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Brown's Pharmacy upon the occasion of
its designation as recipient of the 2013 Business of the Year Award from
the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly recognize those businesses within the State of New York which
have positively influenced their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Brown's Pharmacy upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the 2013 Business of the Year Award from the Unadilla Chamber of
Commerce on Sunday, April 21, 2013, in Unadilla, New York; and
WHEREAS, It was in 1956 that Lew Sturgess and his wife Ellen moved to
Unadilla and bought the business from Bob Kinch; when Lew retired in
1995, the business was passed down to his daughter, Kelley Spencer; and
WHEREAS, Chris Brown began working with Kelley in October of 2003
becoming acquainted with many of the local customers; a month later, he
purchased the business and the name was changed to Brown's Pharmacy in
September of 2004; and
WHEREAS, A 1990 graduate of Tupper Lake High School, Chris Brown then
went on to Albany College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1995; his early
jobs were with Fay's and Tops pharmacies in Norwich; and
WHEREAS, For a while, Chris Brown served as a pharmacy director at
Chenango Memorial Hospital, but later decided he wanted to get back into
retail and help his community with its pharmaceutical needs; while the
business along with its personal service is ongoing, Chris Brown has
seen changes in technology and strives to keep updating the business;
and
WHEREAS, While the pharmacy business keeps Chris Brown busy, he still
finds time to serve on the executive board of Family Planning of South
Central New York and on the regional advisory board of Cardinal Health
National Wholesaler; he also has been involved with the Relay for Life
in Chenango County for many years; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Dianna and their
children Chelsea, Gabe and Macauley, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body commends
Brown's Pharmacy for its excellence and for its commitment and contrib-
utions to the community it has so ably served; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brown's Pharmacy upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the 2013 Business of the Year Award from the Unadilla Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chris Brown, the owner of Brown's Pharmacy.
