LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION welcoming the Staten Island Daughters of Africa
upon the occasion of their visit to The New York State Capitol, Albany,
New York, on May 21, 2013

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to recognize for
their valued contributions to the success and progress of society and
publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic
humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to welcome the Staten
Island Daughters of Africa upon the occasion of their visit to The New
York State Capitol, Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 21, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1996, the Daughters of Africa is a community youth
group for boys and girls, whose mission is to aid in the efficient use
of existing services, and to help young people become civic leaders, as
well as active in the political process; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Executive Director Sharon
Peake, the organization identifies and fills gaps in the recreational
and service network of the local community; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to give back to the community, the Daughters of
Africa host an annual Christmas party, and hold a toy drive for families
of modest means; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
welcome the Staten Island Daughters of Africa upon the occasion of their
visit to The New York State Capitol, Albany, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Daughters of Africa.
