LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Voorheesville Middle School
Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the occasion of capturing first place in
their division at the Regional Tournament on March 2, 2013
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State by achieving outstanding success in educational
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Voorheesville Middle School Odyssey of the Mind Team upon the
occasion of capturing first place in their division at the Regional
Tournament held at Shenendehowa High School, Clifton Park, New York, on
Saturday, March 2, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Odyssey of the Mind Competition teaches students to learn
creative problem-solving methods, encouraging individual expression,
imaginative thinking and team building skills in order to achieve
solutions; and
WHEREAS, The Voorheesville Middle School Team's assigned problem was
to create and present an original performance that included a replica of
a documented architectural structure built between 1000 AD and 1600 AD,
three vanished works of art to be found by two questing characters, and
two songs accompanied by choreographed movement; and
WHEREAS, To address this problem, the Voorheesville Middle School Team
chose to construct the Hall of Supreme Harmony in Beijing, China, with
their Musical centered around balance and harmony as symbolized by
Yin/Yang; and
WHEREAS, In addition to taking first place in their division, the
Voorheesville Middle School Team was the only team among the hundreds
who competed to receive the Ranatra Fusca Award which is given to teams
or individuals who display tremendous creativity at competition; and
WHEREAS, The Voorheesville Middle School Odyssey of the Mind Team was
coached by Shanna Anderson, Elizabeth Longden, and Kathy Curren, and the
members were: Cole Anderson, Cormac Brennan, Nathan Clough, Christopher
Curren, Daniel Curren, Ian Longden, and Nicky Summerson; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers, fami-
ly and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Voorheesville Middle School Odyssey of the Mind Team
upon the occasion of capturing first place in their division at the
Regional Tournament, and offer them its best wishes for a future of
purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Voorheesville Middle School Odyssey of the Mind Team.
