LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Manory's
Restaurant

WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the economic well-being and interests
of the people of this great Empire State merit the commendation of this
Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business
organizations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Manory's Restaurant; and
WHEREAS, A Troy, New York, restaurant that has occupied the same brick
building at the corner of Congress and Fourth streets for many decades
celebrating its first centennial; the owners of Manory's restaurant, Jen
and Louis Marchese, Jr. have put up a new mural behind the counter
commemorating the centennial, put new paint on the walls, and new cush-
ions on the stools but will keep its important old-time feel; and
WHEREAS, When Louis Marchese, Jr., the current owner, and his father,
who died in 2007, bought the restaurant in 1990 from Anthony Manory, the
last member of the Manory family to own the establishment, they main-
tained a similar decor, menu, and the same family-friendly atmosphere;
and
WHEREAS, Inside the restaurant, 1950s-style booths and stools that
were present when the restaurant was run by the Manorys are still pres-
ent, surrounded by walls decorated in photographs of the city; in such
an atmosphere, patrons peruse a menu that has long boasted "the most
comprehensive breakfast menu in the Capital District" with more than
five dozen breakfast offerings; those morning menu choices are, in the
style of old luncheonettes, also available in the afternoon; and
WHEREAS, Under the Marchese family, Manory's has not only maintained
the same moniker, but built a reputation for consistency and a
connection to the community; the restaurant is open seven days a week
and rarely closes for holidays; and
WHEREAS, When Manory's first opened in the spring of 1913, they were
one of the first customers of the Freihofer Vienna Baking Company's
first factory in the Capital District, located in Lansingburgh, which
opened on March 12th in the same year; the restaurant has maintained
that connection with the bakery even though Freihofer's no longer owns
the Lansingburgh bakery; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Marchese fami-
ly and Manory's Restaurant; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and business organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments
are brought to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citi-
zens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Manory's Restaurant; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jen and Louis Marchese, Jr.
