LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gail Patricia Perry upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the United Tenants of Albany
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gail
Patricia Perry upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by the United Tenants of Albany; this auspicious occasion will be
celebrated at the organization's 40th Annual Meeting; and
WHEREAS, In 1971, Gail Patricia (Pat) Perry was a young woman in her
first apartment when she encountered a pair of community organizers
contacting tenants in her building on South Pearl Street in Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The natural inquisitiveness of Pat Perry stimulated her to
become involved in open community meetings at Providence House in Alba-
ny, New York, and to contact other tenants in their apartments; and
WHEREAS, Pat Perry's quiet leadership activities resulted in becoming
a member of the initial board of directors of the United Tenants of
Albany; in this capacity, she participated in meetings with tenant
organizations in New York City and other upstate cities on statewide
issues; and
WHEREAS, It was a natural progression for Pat Perry to also become one
of the initial staff members of United Tenants of Albany in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Pat Perry became an employee of the New York State Office of
Court Administration; she purchased her own home in Albany, New York,
and developed a unique collection of African art; and
WHEREAS, The progression of Pat Perry from a curious tenant to a
community leader to a career civil servant and homeownership dramat-
ically reflects the beneficial changes that occurred in Albany, New
York, during the existence of the United Tenants of Albany over the past
40 years; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Gail Patricia Perry
has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the
respect and admiration of her colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Gail Patricia Perry has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gail Patricia Perry upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the United Tenants of Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gail Patricia Perry.
