LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mindy Ross upon the occasion of her
retirement after 31 distinguished years as an educator and administrator
at SUNY Orange

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mindy Ross
upon the occasion of her retirement after 31 distinguished years as an
educator and administrator at SUNY Orange; and
WHEREAS, Mindy Ross, Chief Administrator and Vice President of the
SUNY Orange Newburgh campus, is retiring on July 1, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Mindy Ross has served as the Chief Administrator of the SUNY
Orange Newburgh campus since January 2006, and was named Vice President
in 2008; she is responsible for the overall administration of a growing
campus which currently serves more than 1,500 full- and part-time
students each semester; and
WHEREAS, From 1982 to January 2006, she was a Professor of English at
the College; she was President of the College's shared governance system
from 1995 to 2001 and also served ten years as SUNY Orange's represen-
tative to the SUNY Faculty Council of Community Colleges; she was
presented with a SUNY Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence in
1991; and
WHEREAS, Mindy Ross holds a bachelor's degree in English from St.
Lawrence University and master's degrees in English from Colgate Univer-
sity and in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz; and
WHEREAS, Under Mindy Ross' guidance, the SUNY Orange Newburgh campus
has developed a diverse cultural affairs program which brings artists,
musicians, lecturers and performers to the campus throughout the academ-
ic year; and
WHEREAS, In fitting honor of Mindy Ross' personal and professional
commitment to the arts, the campus' former Center Arts Gallery inside
Kaplan Hall has been renamed the Mindy Ross Gallery; and
WHEREAS, Mindy Ross has continually demonstrated an impressive dedi-
cation, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the
quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at SUNY
Orange for the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the
entire surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, In completing her distinguished service at SUNY Orange, Mindy
Ross leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; she leaves behind a
legacy to New York State, to SUNY Orange and the residents of the commu-
nities it serves, and to the entire SUNY system and to future gener-
ations of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mindy Ross upon the occasion of her retirement, and for her
significant contributions to education in New York State; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mindy Ross.
