LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the American Cancer Society - Hudson
Valley Region upon the occasion of hosting its Birthday Bash on Septem-
ber 27, 2013, and applauding its honorees
WHEREAS, 2013 marks 100 years of saving lives and creating a world with
more birthdays for the American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, For the millions of Americans who have been touched by cancer
in some direct way, whether as survivors themselves, or as individuals
who have lost loved ones, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has provided
invaluable support and unyielding advocacy on their behalves; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the American
Cancer Society - Hudson Valley Region, upon the occasion of hosting its
Birthday Bash, and to applaud the honorees who have done so much in
support of its mission; this joyous milestone will be celebrated on
Friday, September 27, 2013, at Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York;
and
WHEREAS, ACS is the largest voluntary health organization in the
United States; with 12 geographic divisions, the organization has more
than 900 local offices, a presence in more than 5,100 communities and
more than three million volunteers; and
WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society - Hudson Valley Region, is indeed
fortunate to have many committed volunteers who share in its mission,
and who go above and beyond in their efforts to raise funds and aware-
ness about its work; and
WHEREAS, The extraordinary individuals and organizations being honored
at the American Cancer Society - Hudson Valley Region Birthday Bash are:
Dr. Hal Teitelbaum of Crystal Run Healthcare; The Rand Family of Better
Homes and Gardens-Rand Realty; and Susan Swensen, who will be receiving
the Volunteer Recognition Award; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Orange Regional Medical Center, Health Quest,
and Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union will be recognized for earning
the CEO Gold Standard Accreditation, a most noteworthy accomplishment;
and
WHEREAS, Due to the outstanding work of regional offices such as the
American Cancer Society - Hudson Valley, ACS is saving lives by helping
people stay well through prevention and early detection; helping people
get well through supportive services and finding cures; and by combating
the diseases through patient programs, raising and investing billions of
dollars in cutting-edge research, education and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, The National Cancer Institute's 2013 ANNUAL REPORT TO THE
NATION ON THE STATUS OF CANCER, shows that overall cancer death rates
continue to decline in the United States among both men and women and
among all major racial and ethnic groups, highlighting the heroic
efforts of advocacy groups such as the American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, Thanks in part to the work of ACS, there are nearly 14
million survivors of cancer currently living in the United States; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to the American Cancer Society -
Hudson Valley Region for its invaluable efforts in the fight against
cancer; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the American Cancer Society - Hudson Valley Region, upon the
occasion of hosting its Birthday Bash on September 27, 2013, and to
applaud its honorees; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the American Cancer Society - Hudson Valley Region, and the
aforementioned honorees.
