LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION celebrating the 35th Anniversary of Good Old
Lower East Side (GOLES), on June 20, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize illustri-
ous organizations which have positively impacted and substantially
contributed to the vitality of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
lasting traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to celebrate
the 35th Anniversary of GOLES; and
WHEREAS, Since 1977, GOLES has worked to empower the low income resi-
dents of the Lower East Side community to prevent against displacement;
and
WHEREAS, GOLES is an invaluable resource for residents seeking housing
counseling, assistance with government benefits, and help dealing with
evictions; and
WHEREAS, GOLES offers a variety of employment services ranging from
letter writing classes to mock interviews in order to properly prepare
those in the community looking to join the workforce; and
WHEREAS, GOLES works to promote the health and wellness of seniors
through community engagement and leadership programs; and
WHEREAS, In the long-term, GOLES is looking to preserve the Lower East
Side community as a clean and safe environment for its families and
businesses; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional business and its contributions to the Lower East
Side community, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the 35th Anniversary of GOLES, New York, New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to GOLES.
