LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jacob Efthimiou upon the occasion
of his selection as an inaugural member of Carnegie Hall's National
Youth Orchestra of the United States, July 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those young people within our midst whose nationally acclaimed accom-
plishments bring pride to their families, their communities, and to the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jacob Efthimiou upon the occasion of his selection as an inaugural
member of Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra of the United States
(NYO-USA); he begins a two-week intensive musical residency at Purchase
College, State University of New York, in July 2013; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Efthimiou is a resident of Delhi, New York; a cellist,
the 17-year-old homeschooled student is a member of the Empire State
Youth Orchestra; and
WHEREAS, The NYO-USA is comprised of this Nation's finest young musi-
cians; Jacob Efthimiou was chosen to be one of the 120 inaugural orches-
tra members through a national awareness and recruitment effort; these
talented youth were selected based on musical and technical skill, as
well such personal qualities as passion, intellectual curiosity, and
emotional maturity; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Efthimiou, a well-traveled young man, enjoys drama,
film-making, comedy, boxing, and soccer; and
WHEREAS, He hopes to pursue a career as a solo or orchestral musician,
actor, physicist or engineer; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of the musical residency, Jacob Efthi-
miou, along with his fellow NYO-USA members, will embark on an inaugural
tour, beginning with a July performance at the Purchase College Perform-
ing Arts Center, Purchase, New York, a concert at Kennedy Center Concert
Hall, Washington, DC, and then followed by an international tour to
Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, and London, England; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Efthimiou, through the radiant light of his talent, is
now a musical ambassador for America throughout the world, a vibrant
symbol of hope and confidence; and
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form depicted, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples is
immeasurable; and
WHEREAS, The history, the heritage, and the lives of the people of all
countries and all cultures are portrayed in their music and dance; the
art and act of sharing them enriches us altogether; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Jacob Efthimiou, an
exceptional musician, recognizing the value of his dedication to his
art, and the promise of his future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jacob Efthimiou upon the occasion of his selection as an
inaugural member of Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra of the
United States; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jacob Efthimiou.
