LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing Your News Now (YNN) Central and
Northern New York upon the occasion of the news channel's 10th Anniver-
sary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of the State of New York to recognize those
reputable news organizations within our communities that are instru-
mental in educating and informing the public at large about important
events and issues throughout the State, Nation and world; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to hereby
recognize and congratulate YNN Central and Northern New York upon the
occasion of the news channel's 10th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, YNN Central and Northern New York, which is owned by Time
Warner Cable, operates out of its headquarters in the former historic
Central New York train station on Erie Boulevard in the City of Syra-
cuse; and
WHEREAS, YNN Central and Northern New York began cablecasting as "News
10 Now" on November 7, 2003, under the direction of General Manager and
News Director Ron Lombard; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, News 10 Now launched a Southern Tier channel with
news, weather and sports targeting the Binghamton and Elmira/Corning
markets; and
WHEREAS, Three years later, Time Warner Cable announced that "News 10
Now" and its sister network would rebrand under its YNN branding, which
had previously been implemented in Buffalo and Rochester, by the end of
March 2010; and
WHEREAS, YNN Central and Northern New York is part of a statewide
network of Time Warner Cable 24-hour news channels that include sister
channels in Albany, Rochester, Buffalo, the Hudson Valley, and New York
City; and
WHEREAS, YNN Central and Northern New York covers an area of more than
15,000 square miles; these coverage areas include Syracuse, Oswego,
Auburn, Utica, the Mohawk Valley, the Adirondack Tri-Lakes area, Water-
town, and the St. Lawrence Seaway/Canadian border; and
WHEREAS, For the past 10 years, YNN Central and Northern New York has
offered its viewing audience an hourly program wheel that features live
breaking news, top stories, live sports and traffic reports, plus local
weather forecasts every 10 minutes; and
WHEREAS, In addition, YNN Central and Northern New York has provided
its cable customers with various special entertainment segments that
include - but are not limited to - Cooking At Home, Pet Pointers, Garden
Journeys, the Getaway Guy, Weekend Buzz, Your Hometown, Today in New
York History, and Techbeat; and
WHEREAS, Capital Tonight, New York's only statewide political program,
which provides comprehensive coverage of the news from the State Capi-
tol, airs live on YNN Central and Northern New York Monday through
Friday at 8:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Members of the YNN Central and Northern New York news team
have received numerous Syracuse Press and New York State Associated
Press awards for their outstanding work on various special reports,
exclusive interviews, and in-depth news series, plus online news
content; and
WHEREAS, Under the vision and leadership of Ron Lombard, YNN Central
and Northern New York has continued to grow and enhance its news prod-
uct, providing continuous news, traffic and weather to more than 600,000
cable subscribing customers; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, YNN Central and Northern New York partnered with
other television stations in Syracuse to bring more community awareness
to the sexual, verbal, and physical abuse of children, by producing and
airing a one hour special called "Protecting Our Children"; and
WHEREAS, YNN Central and Northern New York presently employs a team of
nearly 70 journalists and technicians, who are dedicated to delivering
timely, credible and diverse news reports from the field or news studio
on various issues that include - but are not limited to - crime, educa-
tion, politics, health, business, and the military; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body hereby pause to recognize and
congratulate YNN Central and Northern New York upon the occasion of the
news channel's 10th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to YNN Central and Northern New York General Manager and News
Director Ron Lombard.
