LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice
of Suffolk, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 9th Annual Golf Clas-
sic, and honoring James T. Powers for special recognition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk, Inc. upon the occasion
of hosting its 9th Annual Golf Classic to be held Monday, August 5,
2013, at Indian Hills Country Club, Northport, New York; and
WHEREAS, This year, the Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk,
Inc. will commend James T. Powers, AIA, upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, James T. Powers is the Director of Operations and Business
Development for Bohler Engineering, and has over 30 years of experience
in the construction industry; and
WHEREAS, His diversification ranges from heading Chase Manhattan
Bank's architectural department, managing his own design/build firm,
Wall Street Collaborative/Powers Collins Architects, founding the firms
Franchise Consulting Services and JT Powers Development, and heading the
business development efforts for professional firms; and
WHEREAS, Currently, James T. Powers is a Professor of Design and
Construction Management at New York Institute of Technology; his work in
the franchise business led him to not only design dozens of different
franchise companies' prototypes, but also ran franchise companies them-
selves including Golden Krust; he expanded the company from 35 units to
125 units in his first year; and
WHEREAS, James T. Powers and his partners have also owned a number of
restaurants; his career has allowed him to experience the A/E/C field
from all angles which has allowed him to relate to all stakeholders,
build consensuses and develop business in the best interest of all
parties; and
WHEREAS, As a registered architect, James T. Powers is involved in
many professional organizations, including the AIA, USGBC, and The
Retail Network; and
WHEREAS, His philanthropic endeavors include being a Trustee of the
Hockscher Museum, the AOH, President of the Crab Meadow Golf Club, and
is currently the longest tenured President of the Townwide Fund of Hunt-
ington; and
WHEREAS, James T. Powers is the proud father of four children, James,
Jackson, Jarrett, and Joanna, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its 9th Annual Golf Classic, and honoring James T.
Powers for special recognition; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk, Inc., and
James T. Powers.
