LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the opening of the Franklin D.
Roosevelt Library and Museum New Exhibits
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library is
in direct correlation to the efforts of the many individuals who have
supported the development of it over the years; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
opening of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum New Exhibits, to
be celebrated on Sunday, June 30, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Library's mission is to foster research and education on
the life and times of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and their continu-
ing impact on contemporary life; its work is carried out by four major
areas: Archives, Museum, Education and Public Programs; and
WHEREAS, The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum is
the first of the presidential libraries; it was conceived and built
under President Roosevelt's direction during 1939-1940 on 16 acres of
land in Hyde Park, New York, donated by the President and his mother,
Sara Delano Roosevelt; and
WHEREAS, The Library resulted from the President's decision that a
separate facility was needed to house the vast quantity of historical
papers, books, and memorabilia he had accumulated during a lifetime of
public service and private collecting; and
WHEREAS, These particular exhibits will tell the story of the Roose-
velt presidency beginning in the depths of the Great Depression and
continuing through the New Deal years and World War II with an emphasis
on both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt's relationship with the American
people; special interactives, immersive audio-visual theaters, and rare-
ly seen artifacts will convey the dramatic story of the Roosevelt era as
the Roosevelt Library brings a New Deal to a New Generation; and
WHEREAS, Rooted in a proud and distinguished history, the Franklin D.
Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum may take just pride in its
purposeful growth, as it looks forward to continuing to serve the educa-
tional, cultural and intellectual needs of the community; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the opening of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum
New Exhibits; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library and Museum.
