LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim September 28, 2013, as Good Neighbor Day in the State of New
York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to memorialize Gover-
nor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim September 28, 2013, as Good Neighbor Day
in the State of New York, in conjunction with National Good Neighbor
Day; and
WHEREAS, The commemoration of National Good Neighbor Day began as the
initiative of an individual citizen in the early 1970s as a way to
promote the understanding, love and respect needed to build cohesive
families and communities; and
WHEREAS, Initially celebrated on the fourth Sunday of September,
United States Presidents Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, and Jimmy
Carter, issued proclamations for National Good Neighbor Day, urging all
Americans to take the time to appreciate their neighbors and neighbor-
hoods; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, the United States Senate passed a resolution making
September 28 the official National Good Neighbor Day; this step affirmed
a national commitment to fostering compassion and concern for others as
treasured American values; and
WHEREAS, Good Neighbor Day is a time when all New Yorkers can remind
themselves of the extraordinary power of goodwill and friendship and, in
the process, make the communities of this great Empire State better
places in which to live and work; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim September 28, 2013, as
Good Neighbor Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
