LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Shaker High School seniors Daniel
Edwards and Sidney Ling on winning the top prize in RPI's 2013 Business
Plan competition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young
citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Shaker High
School seniors Daniel Edwards and Sidney Ling on winning the top prize
in RPI's 2013 Business Plan competition; and
WHEREAS, The competition provides an opportunity for teams of high
school students to win prizes and exchange ideas in an intellectually
vibrant environment and to receive feedback from members of the Lally
School's community of management scholars and business leaders; and
WHEREAS, To participate in the competition, each student team must
develop a unique and innovative business concept and prepare a ten-mi-
nute presentation geared toward motivating potential investors to fund a
company started to execute the students' business concept; and
WHEREAS, Shaker High School seniors Daniel Edwards and Sidney Ling
took home the top prize of $2,500 in the 2013 Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute High School Business Plan Competition; and
WHEREAS, For their project Daniel Edwards and Sidney Ling designed and
fabricated a UAV which would have a range of 200 miles at 60 miles per
hour and could be marketed to assist with search and rescue efforts at
sea; their gas-powered Hydro Aid and Rescue Plane could be launched by
hand, making it viable for shipboard storage; and
WHEREAS, Outstanding role models for their classmates, Daniel Edwards
and Sidney Ling have brought honor to their families, school, and commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Edwards and Sidney Ling may stand with pride in their
achievements, experiencing the satisfaction of their labors and the joy
of their accomplishment, eager to face the challenge of new experiences
as they continue their education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Shaker High School seniors Daniel Edwards and Sidney Ling on
winning the top prize in RPI's 2013 Business Plan competition; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Daniel Edwards and to Sidney Ling.
