LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mitchell Aragona upon the occasion of
winning the 2013 Congressional Art Competition for the 20th District of
New York, on May 13, 2013
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Mitchell Aragona upon the occasion of winning the 2013 Congressional Art
Competition for the 20th District of New York; his winning picture was
displayed at a reception on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Arts Center of
the Capital Region in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, The annual Congressional Art Competition, which began in
1982, is sponsored by the Members of the United States House of Repre-
sentatives and seeks to encourage artistic talent among high school
students nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Mitchell Aragona is a student at Shaker High School in
Latham, New York; his digital photograph of the back of a computer
tower, titled "Walk Down Memory Lane," was judged to be the best out of
40 entries from 19 school districts in the 20th Congressional District;
and
WHEREAS, The imaginative photo, which was clearly the back of a
computer, also resembled that of a dreary, almost futuristic cityscape;
the sophisticated, professional quality impressed the judges and won the
day; and
WHEREAS, Mitchell Aragona's work will be on display at the United
States Capitol for the duration of the year alongside the winning
entries from other Congressional districts nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the marketplace of ideas are
worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
artist now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers, mentors and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mitchell Aragona upon the occasion of winning the 2013 Congres-
sional Art Competition for the 20th District of New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mitchell Aragona.
