LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the Dutchess County Regional Cham-
ber of Commerce Hot Air Balloon Festival

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions, individuals and events that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Hot Air Balloon
Festival; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on July 5-7, 2013,
at Waryas Park in Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born on November 20, 1907 with 312 charter members, the
Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, which until recently was
known as the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce, was created to grow
the local economy; and
WHEREAS, The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce's Balloon
Festival, an annual summer tradition in the Hudson Valley, will take
place from July 5-7 at various sites around Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Festival begins with a dozen evening launches scattered
throughout Dutchess County at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 5; at 6 a.m. on
Saturday, July 6, all balloons in town will dot the sky over the Hudson
River, taking off from the docks of the Hudson River Rowing Association;
another round of 6 p.m. departures will take place Saturday evening at
various sites before a second 6 a.m. mass launch at the Hudson River
Rowing Association Boathouse on Sunday, July 7 brings the Balloon
Festival to a close; and
WHEREAS, In addition, as a special feature, on Friday and Saturday,
"Moon Glow" nighttime balloon launches will take place at Waryas Park in
Poughkeepsie; these launches are scheduled to take place after dark and
will feature a specially treated balloon shining brightly against the
night sky as it rises; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and events of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citi-
zens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Hot Air
Balloon Festival; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Hot Air
Balloon Festival.
